What if every child could thrive?

Before becoming an artist, I spent many years working in nonprofit organizations that serve vulnerable children. This series of paintings, and the resulting video, are my continuation of that child advocacy through art.

Children are at the mercy of adults. At our worst, we put children in cages and separate them from their families. We allow them to be hungry, abused and neglected. We let them experience fear and violence. At our best, we embrace the premise that it takes a village to raise a child. We care about the health and well-being of all children, not just our own. We help a friend, relative or neighbor who is struggling. We support policies and organizations that protect children and strengthen families. What if every child could thrive? Imagine how it would change the trajectory of society. At our core, we are the sum of our childhood and our choices. We learn to be kind or violent, to nurture or destroy, to be brave or afraid. What if every child were safe, loved, nourished, educated and respected? What if every child had family, community and opportunity? Placing the highest value on the lives of children is a moral imperative. Let’s put children first.
